A Sonnet is a poem of 14 lines, usually in iambic pentameter. The Elizabethan or Shakespearean sonnet is characterized by three quatrains and couplet rhyming abab cdcd efef gg.
Shakespeare wrote 154 sonnets and several major poems, some of which are considered to be the most brilliant pieces of English literature ever written.
